        CLAY Team Sports Ministry

        Multiple Positions (2004-2013)

        CLAY Team Sports Ministry was founded in 2004 as the Christian League of Athletics for Youth and served as the continuation of the 100+ year old Erie County Church Athletic Association. I coached both K-2 coed and 5-6 grade boys teams as a student coach before moving into an administrative role where I was responsible for working with local churches to ensure player eligibility, connect with local business sponsors and organize community service projects with local non-profit organizations.

         

        The league tripled in size and became the largest youth basketball program in Northwest Pennsylvania. CLAY was the only sports ministry organization to focus on connecting small churches, promoting competition and was the first sports ministry program to mandate concussion awareness training. In 2010, we also launched a summer camp program to serve as an outreach-focused alternative to traditional vacation Bible school programs.

        I competed four years as a varsity track athlete. After suffering an injury during my junior year, I took over coaching underclassmen in sprint mechanics. During my time at Malone, we won two American Mid-East Conference titles and two National Christian College Athletic Association titles.         In partnership with Scripture Union Canada, Scripture Union Honduras and Athletes in Action Honduras, I served as the only American on a multi-national ministry team. We trained local pastors, visited local schools, managed a week long soccer clinic, oversaw a end-of-week soccer tournament, planned youth activities at a local camp and helped organize a city-wide church soccer league based on the CLAY model.

        Owned and operated a 170+ year old bed and breakfast. Built by Charles Baker in 1842, The Haven served as a station on the Underground Railroad with tunnels connecting it to at least three other houses. The Haven was converted into a bed and breakfast in 2011, was featured on Out 'N About Columbus and had guests stay from all over the world. We partnered with the local chamber of commerce, radio stations and non-profit organizations as part of Marion's ongoing downtown revitalization plan and regularly gave historical tours highlighting local abolitionist history.
