Civic Literacy • Institutional Design • Public Leadership

  • Civics represents the bridge between my work in ethical formation and my work in law and governance. With a Master’s degree in Social Studies Education from The Ohio State University, I have spent the better part of a decade helping students and institutions navigate questions of rights, responsibilities, and public life.

    Strengthening Institutions Through Civic Literacy

Within the New York City Department of Education, I directed schoolwide programs that earned state recognition for the Seal of Civic Readiness and Legal Studies pathway — initiatives that required aligning instruction, documentation, and policy.

I chaired the Civics for All governance committee, oversaw multi-year audit readiness processes, and designed curriculum that connected constitutional principles to modern issues such as data privacy, digital citizenship, and public ethics.

    National and Academic Partnerships

My work extended nationally through partnerships with organizations dedicated to improving civic education.

At Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, I led students through policy-writing work that strengthened the CTY Student Code of Conduct. Through iCivics, I joined a national educator network engaged in civic leadership, democratic skills, and policy advocacy.

I also received training in civil discourse through the Harvard Case Method Institute, promoting a model of democratic discussion grounded in historical reasoning and shared responsibility.

Building Civic Capacity Through Programs and Design

Across these roles, my work has focused on helping institutions translate civic ideals into practice — not only through instruction, but through systems design. This includes documentation frameworks, governance tools, equity-centered program evaluation, and policy-aligned curriculum.

Civics, for me, is the practice of helping communities understand how systems work, why structures matter, and how individuals can engage responsibly within them.
