Research
My research examines how people and institutions keep the capacity for judgment, coordination, and accountable action as technology changes how knowledge and work are produced.
Three research areas
-
The person
Human Formation
How people develop durable knowledge, judgment, agency, and capability.
Current work
The Formation Gap. What happens when AI improves immediate performance without developing the human capability that produced it?
In development
-
The organization
Governed Work
How accountable people stay responsible for knowledge work that AI increasingly mediates: how it is divided, remembered, checked, and governed.
Current work
The Portorosso Papers. A seven-paper working series on governing AI in professional and organizational work (below).
Working papers
-
Across institutions
Human Network
How organizations and institutions coordinate when knowledge, authority, and resources are distributed across many actors.
Current work
Coordination Without Control. How do institutions act together when no one controls the whole system?
In development
Governed Work
The Portorosso Papers
This is the most direct bridge from the research to practice in AI governance, compliance, knowledge management, and organizational design. Papers 1–4 are working papers in their fourth version; papers 5–7 are in draft. None is published or publicly available yet.

Governed Orchestration
What keeps a capable AI system from gradually governing itself?

The Orchestration Tax
Is structured oversight worth its cost?
- WP6In development
Adaptive Cognitive Architecture
Does an approved AI system stay valid as its models and tools change?
- WP7In development
The Governed Cognitive Organization
How does an institution govern AI capability at scale?
Current research program
Architecture of Human Systems
A Creative Visual Studio research program. It examines how human systems stay capable of governing themselves as technology, knowledge, and institutions change, and connects the three areas above: formation produces people capable of judgment, those people govern the work of their organizations, and organizations coordinate across institutions.
I develop the program and write its papers. The frameworks are in development and not peer reviewed.
